Open to Interpretation Hopkins Center for the
Arts December 3, 2009 to January 10, 2010
Opening Reception December 3, 6 - 8 PM
Open to Interpretation is a collaboration with various writer and poets. Each encaustic photograph is paired
with two different stories or poems offering different interpretations of the image.
A photograph conveys
a sense of the world to its viewers. It's about ideas and something happens when the viewers add themselves to the story.
As an artist this has been an amazing collaborative experience. The words add another dimension to the work which allows me
to re-discover the image in ways that I never imagined.

Encaustic Photographs
My desire to bring depth and
texture to my images guides my new work. I seek to go beyond what the camera records and prefer to interpret the world around
me with the freedom offered by other mediums. As my work evolves I have been applying and re-applying layers of textures and
colors until my interpretation of the image feels right. Transforming the images gives me the opportunity to add light and
shade along with color and texture to further explore alternative versions of my image. Why? To reveal a combination of the
realistic and the abstract.
